Hey everyone,

I recently picked up a used Pit Boss Laredo 1000 and I’m trying to figure out whether the grill is operating normally or if something needs attention.

Today, with the outside temperature around 56°F, I set the grill to 275°F. After approximately 20 minutes, it had only reached 238°F. It continued climbing and eventually reached 275°F, but the preheating process seems pretty slow.

I’ve also been watching the fan operation. The red fan indicator on the control panel stays illuminated, but the fan itself appears to cycle on and off. I’m not sure whether that’s normal for this model.

A few questions for other Laredo 1000 owners:

  1. How long does yours typically take to reach 275°F, 350°F, or 400°F?
  2. Is it normal for the fan to cycle on and off while the indicator remains illuminated?
  3. Are there common issues with the controller, temperature sensor, fan, or other components that could explain slow heating?
  4. What would you recommend checking first?
  5. My controller box just lifts up. Like the housing is broken. How do you fix this? Controller works great

The grill is used, and I’m comfortable doing some troubleshooting or replacing parts if necessary. I’d just like to understand what’s normal before spending money on repairs.

Appreciate any advice from other owners!

Welcome from Texas to the group!
You’ll always see it slow to climb when it’s cold outside
You can always see Ute the controller from the back with a heavy duct tape to secure it or purchase a new since they’re cheap to purchase
Hopefully this helps you 🇺🇸🇺🇸
