New Pitboss Grills App

The app is ok for monitoring temps but it is so annoying that it goes through that whole sequence of connecting, checking firmware, etc everytime I look at it, even if it is already open on my phone. The older version didn't do this nonsense. Does this happen for everyone?
Yes, they want you to know how cleverly thorough they are. Again. And again. And again.

I complained about this on July 4 when I fired up the smoker. It’s so ridiculous that I bought probes with wireless monitoing.

What’s crazy is that the can’t fix it. It should be a simple thing, but they farm it out and are too cheap to pay for needed fixes. They also have a very bad review team, because nobody should have signed off on this crap

When I first got the PB years ago the company who ran the app was great very rarely had isuses and if they did fixed in a week. App alerted you by sound when cooking or probe temp was reached didn't do the on off thing now it was really nice . PB then stopped using them and ever since it's been so up and down moslty down. Even now sometimes I get sometimes I get alerted by sound and sometimes no. I agree should be all some fixes.

And the customer service are useless excpet to just send you new parts. They have no clue.
I found the customer service to be VERY useful when they sent me a new controller for my PB1150 and then guided me through some changes to my use of it; it is rock steady.
However - the app - some observations (I am a computer tech). My PB is on a node of my Eero mesh system which also has a couple of other IOT devices on it, my garage door opener uses the same chipset as my Pit Boss.
The Eero system has a management app which allows me to see which devices are connected and the last 14 days of activity for all these devices.
For several weeks I was having to reconnect my grill to my WiFi network EVERY time I started a cook. When I looked at the Eero systems device activity report it was clear that the grill was being disconnected the same night at 2:36 AM every time. Nothing else was happening on my network anywhere close to that time on these days.
On a big holiday this spring I was unable to catch connect the grill to the app but I could see that it was connected to my WiFi on the Eero app. I think the server was down at Danson (others complained).
Question: why does my grill have to be connected to Danson’s server just to start the app on my phone and connect to the grill on MY local area network?
Also I always thought the 2:36 AM shutoffs smelled like what happens when a server does it’s nightly backup…
Way too much in my bizness… If the connection is about fancy graphics (like flames) or saving my cook - I don’t need the flames and the connection only needs to happen AFTER I click “Yes” to save the cook.

I don’t think it’s fair to say they are useless. They have to deal with a bad product. I had a guy on the phone for 1/2 hour. He send me a new controller. I never put it in.

We’ve been asking that question for years. Why do we have to log in to use our grill?

I have no desire to have one. I own a INKBIRD and it’s served me well 🇺🇸🇺🇸

So I finally got around to making sausage out of the last of my cut up venison and pork butt in the freezer. I knew these would smoke for hours so I went across town to lunch with a buddy.
My phone proceeded to pop up the message that my grill reached its set temperature. So I pulled up the app and I could control my grill from the restaurant! New for me and a very positive thing

Today I am cooking wings and I got a new look on the app:

Notice the bluetooth and WiFi icons in the top right corner and a third unknown icon on the right.
Very nice….
