Hey everyone,

Just joined the forum. My neighbour gave me his old smoker this morning and I’m looking for tips to clean it up as it’s quite dirty and has a lot of rust. I purchased a cleaner and degreaser along with a wire brush, but any tips are appreciated!

Additionally, it’s my first time owning or even using a smoker, so any wisdom you guys have would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome from Rhode Island. Degreaser with a lot of rinse water, scrapping heavy stuff first. Keep water away from anything electronic and out of the pellet bin and auger, sand and repaint areas with high temperature spray paint. Put it out in the hot sun and make sure everything is dried up well. Should be good to go after that unless you need replacement parts which Pitboss has. Don't clean and paint it up too nicely as your neighbor may ask for it back.
Plenty of great people here to help you out with your first smokes.

Thanks, Mike - really appreciate it!

Ran it this afternoon to burn up the old pellets left in it and it works perfectly. I’ll send a pic in the chat in a week or so once I get some time to clean it up. I’ll be sure not to make it look too good lol
