Greetings members. New to the forum and Pit Boss. Just moved on to a Pit Boss Navigator 850m from a 12 yr old GMG Daniel Boone. Just finished assembly and ready for initial start up this weekend. Impressed with the parts and assembly so far. Feels very sturdy and smooth. A couple of questions. Advise on the vents on back of barrel regarding how far to open. Does anyone have the side smokebox, if so is it single wall or double? I'm looking at mounting the fold up side shelf to the smoke box. Has anyone thrown in desicant filter in their pellet container to draw moisture away? Thanks for any info you can share. Looking forward to reading the wealth of info from these pages. Cheers.

Welcome from Oklahoma to the forum.

I always sift my pellets over a container to save the dust and shorts for a smoke tube. I put the sifted pellets in an air tight container with a quart size container of Damp Rid setting on top before putting the lid on the pellets. So far never any problems with damp pellets. Most importantly, do not purchase ANY bags of pellets that have been stored outside where you purchase them!!!! Look the bags over looking for lots of dust over a hole or tear in the bag. Always use good quality pellets, don’t let price be your judge. As far as the chimney cap, I have a vertical smoker I can’t answer for your model. Mine stays fully open unless there is a lot of wind or ran. The fan and controller does the rest. Good luck. I’m sure someone with your model will help you out.
