Never worked

If they would update the firmware to run the blower fan at more than 20% it would heat up a lot faster. Soon as you turn off the grill it goes to 100% for 20 minutes or so before it shuts down completley and it's my opinion that it needs to run at 100% until it reaches the set temperature. My Traegar blows 100%, 100% of the time and it kicks the Pitboss all over the patio on that part.
I was wondering about this. We got a PB850DX 6 months ago. I’ve noticed that it doesn’t matter what temp I set it to the fan seems to never change speed. To me it seems like only the auger and igniter change.

Got no problem cooking with it and it seems like I could melt lead over the fire pot which I nicknamed the crucible. Haha.

When I was a kid I built something similar using a steel paint can as the firebox set inside a bucket lined with rocks between the paint can and the larger bucket. Force fed from the bottom of the paint can air from a vacuum cleaner exhaust to the crucible I just built and melting aluminum was an easy task using charcoal briquettes. I couldn't get my hands on any coal at the time and I'm guessing that would have been a good thing because I'm sure I would have melted the firebox right down using that fuel, LOL.

I gotta try that now. haha

30 plus years ago a guy I worked with who just went through a divorce gave me a kettle grill. It was pretty well used and barely standing. I took it off his hands along with a nice chainsaw (Stihl). Gave him 175$ for the saw which was well worth it.

Anyway one day I had some friends over and as it was getting dark and the end of the night was inevitable I fired up the grill. I knew it was going to be huge grease fire and positioned it appropriately near my brick oven in the back yard. I lit it in such a way to have it slowly turn into a grease fire. The guy who gave it to me never cleaned it and I think he exclusively cooked pork on it cause there was a heavy bacony essence.

Everyone was winding down when the grease finally lit up. The look on everyone’s faces as it lit up the night and gradually turned into a giant rocket engine with the flame racing high into the sky. haha

It was one of those older Weber 18 or 20” grills and finally the rusty molten bottom of the grill caved to the ground allowing more air into the middle of that grease fire. When that happened it was like a turbo turned on and it got so bright and hot it melted the entire grill to the ground and then just fizzled out. A spectacular memorable ending to a great night of BBQ. lol

Are you doing the startup according to the instructions? I wasn't and erratic things happen. Stay in Smoke a few minutes before raising the temperature setting. My Lexington has a dashed line at the bottom of the control panel that disappears when it is ready to go to a higher temperature.
