If you know anything about South Carolina BBQ, you have heard of Rodney Scott. This is his recipe that was in an article about him and how he cooks bbq. If you use it (and I hope someone does) I would be interested in what you thought. I haven't tried it yet...I'll have to give it a try at some point.
1/2 cup kosher salt
1/4 cup sweet paprika
1/4 cup chili powder
1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup black pepper, freshly ground
1/4 cup MSG
2 tablespoons garlic powder
2 tablespoons onion powder
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Instructions
Mix all of the ingredients and place them in an airtight container. Cover and store in a cool dry place until ready to use.

Hi Goose53, I think this would be a fantastic flavor. I pretty much use those same ingredients sans the MSG.
8:3:1+1 this is the Alton Brown ratio that I have based my Rubs on. I do not use chili powder, instead cayenne powder does it for me! I prefer Turbinado sugar, and if I want darker bark I sub some white sugar with the turbinado keeping the same ratio.
