The story starts with the display on my Laredo PB1000PL going out. Pit Boss quickly sent a replacement control board. Swap out was easy and quick. Ran perfect for Approx. 2 months. Then while smoking some chicken a FAN ERR popped up and the smoker shuts off. I check the fan, normal 120Vac fan, and it tested OK. Called Pit Boss service and was told the fan was bad? I told them the fan was ok, I tested it. Nope the fan. So, they sent me a fan. Disconnected to old fan and connected the new fan and got the same FAN ERR error. So, back to the phone. Ok, now they say, must be the control board. Sending a new control board. Receive the new board, install. Still received FAN ERR. I open the cover and check the auger. it was not running either. Checked the wire and found it was disconnected. I plugged it in and everything started working. Unplug and got the FAN ERR. The fan and auger plugs were swapped. Conclusion, control board was bad but because the two fan wires were swapped, the control board was reporting the fan not the auger. Never open the auger panel so, I am guessing the two were swapped all along and did not know until the board failed. All good now. Wish Pit Boss had keyed the plugs to prevent this from happening.
