So I just got me a shiny new PB700FB and I'm ready to jump into the smoke pit!
So I don't have much experience with pellet grills, I have personally used a smoke box and wood chips to achieve some AMAZING smoke flavor on some chicken I did about ten years back. Which is what I think inspired my father to purchase his smoker, where I got some experience using.
Now, the pellets he used weren't all that great. I believe he used the local dept store's budget brand. It rendered a smoke ring, but didn't deliver stand out flavor akin to the way the smoke box did. So I went ahead and ordered what I believe to be premium smoking pellets, I purchased Bear Mountain Mesquite. I wanted to acquire a benchmark for what constitutes a great smoke flavor. I was looking to acquire some PB pellets but none of my local stores carried them, some even mentioned they got discontinued. So upon further researching I discovered that they changed their recipe, some users weren't happy with them. They caused flare ups, the recipe changed. So I went ahead and opted for a different brand of pellets. Hopefully that doesn't irk you guys.
I am trying to go online to register my device. Unfortunately, it's only allowing me to enter the American domain and it's also not allowing me to locate the model order that I acquired. I have tried to find an email for Pitboss to help me address this issue, but I cannot find one. Is there an easier way that they can be reached?
Also, registering the oven enables one to receive 25% off their order online for miscellaneous items. I am interested in purchasing the 700 series insulated blanket, because where I am the mercury can plummet to -35C (or colder). And yes, I WILL be grilling outside in that kind of weather!! Do they actually pay for themselves with the amount of pellets you save or is this aspect overrated? I'm also not seeing any holes in the back of the blanket to allow for smoke to vent. Will this be an issue?
Also, my smoker didn't come with a chimney. Are those any benefit or would I prefer to stick with the 4 vent holes on the back of the device?
Thanks for reading! Any other things you wanna know, or any tips and tricks for just getting started, let me know! I have the thing setup, I just gotta prefire it and season it then add my pellets. I ordered a probe thermometer for accurate temperatures. Next things I'm ordering will be a pizza steel and a pizza peel for smoked pizza (eventually).
