Mine also does, but I also made good use of it and use it to hold my ambient temp probe clamp

Yes, it is really irritating. I use a couple foil balls to wedge them to one side.

I understand leaving some give in order to remove/place them easier, but that seems a bit much. My other concern is the grates themselves. Given the low price point for the 1600 PE compared to other grills of that size/capability, I understand it will not have some premium features like stainless steel grates, but I am going to see if I can get some.
