Whole Turkey in a pan or no pan?

Getting ready for our first bird on the pellet grill. Was wondering what is best cook in a pan for the drippings or no pan? We are really not using the bird juice this year so curious to know if no pan will have good results? It's in the brine now. Cooking a spiral ham as well. Was thinking a rack? I have a rack a wire rack not enclosed pan under it. Opinions?

Pan for me. My opinion it doesn't dry out as much in a pan.

I put a pan underneath and use a large can with either water or apple juice

Dollar store pan. I fill cavity with apple orange and onions.

I asked SWMBO if I could have her old roasting pan to put on the smoker, and I'd get her a new one, but no-go. But she pointed out that the HEBs had one for $15 w/ a $5 coupon, so now I'm set for turkey smoking this Fall for ten bucks!

Last year I did the only bird I've done and it was done on the rack with a pan under it.

Came out beautifully.

Wire rack in a pan. Cooks great. Still gets plenty of smoke. Only clean-up is vacuuming ash.
