When some say pellets abd chips, do you buy them in bags like pellets?

Yes, although they are offered in much smaller bags. Probably 2-3 pounds for $5-$10. Here's a Weber example at Home Depot:

Depending on where you go, they will have a few of the basic flavors to choose from, such as hickory, mesquite, apple, and cherry.

Funny you mention that but two tubes will work as well and the plus side is that you can put a tube on opposite sides

Used a tube on my gas broil king today, not as good as a smoker not really any added bark. But it sure gave a little different flavour.

I was using smoke tubes before I bought my PB. Even been known to use one cookin on my blackstone.

From Amazon, I bought a small one (@ 6" long) and a longer one (@10" long).
Get about 3 hours of smoke on short, and 5-6 hours on long.

I use it for "accent" smoke--usually apple pellets, while cooking with a blend for main hopper
