Slider on left side of hopper

I've looked everywhere online and in the manual. What is the slide on the left side of the hopper used for?

Both mine have a slide on rear of hopper to empty pellets. Don’t know which model you have.

It is the Lockhart Platinum. I have a door on the back to empty the hopper but on the left side there is a slide that I'm not sure what it does I'm guessing it blocks the pellets from going down when it is engaged

Page 21, care and maintenance, part 1 states that you pull this plate out after removing the back drop chute cover for pellet removal.
