I was told by tech that I shouldn’t plug my Pitboss into an outlet that has a GFI
Anyone else heard of this?
I thought all outdoor outlets had to be with a GFI.

I was having tripping issues with an ignitor tripping an Arc fault/GFI breaker. Changed the ignitor and the problem stopped.

Yes I believe current electrical code is all outdoor receptacles are GFI.
I quit using my Pit Boss because it tripped the breaker every time I tried to fire it up (ahem it's NOT that old of a unit) went back to my Green Mountain Grill and no tripping breaker problems

I bought a 2 pack of ignitors from Amazon, put one in and problem solved. I think it cost 12 bucks.

I also use my outlet with an extension cord, no issues. Could it not be that the GFI outlet you are using has simply gotten weaker with age, perhaps replacement with new is all that was needed ? They do get weaker every time they are tripped, or could there have been an issue with the original igniter and now drawing more power = tripping. I hate replacing equipment with non OEM, you never know if the quality is compromised and could cause other issues or is simply a band aid. Hope all works out for you glad your back up and running.

Doing industrial electrical in convinced of a couple of things. AF/GFI breakers suck. They are code now and I get crap from them all the time. Trips are on "arc faults". There are things that they don't like, microwaves are one. I replaced that one with a normal breaker and no more issues. The ignitor in my oven randomly has fits as well.

Our pellet smoker ignitors are another too. The one I pulled out checked good with a meter but was making the AF breaker trip when it was on. Current didn't have anything to do with it.
