Folks,
I am just about to purchase a Pro 850-sq in Hammer Tone Pellet Grill Model #PB850PS2 from Lowes. I was looking at the Pit Boss Pro 600, but then I saw the 820 with the Smoke App and I really want it. Problem is that most of the time I will be cooking for 2 people only, just my wife and I. This will be my first grill, so I am totally new to this. Is the 820 too much for 2 people? Does the larger grill use a lot more pellets? Does the lack of a smoke chimney on the 600 make a big difference?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I would go with the 850. When you have a party, it's nice to be able to cook more food so know one is waiting. There will have more room when you go to smoke something like a brisket or turkey.

The most common advise I've heard on this topic is get twice the size you need. You'll never hear anyone say they wish they had a smaller grill, but lots of people say they wish they had a larger grill. Since things are cooked low and slow for hours, you'll need to cook enough for everyone all at once in order to feed everyone at the same time.

I also have issues with the app, hopefully they fix this.

Thanks Folks, I will buy the larger Grill today ...
I am concerned about the APP ... will I be able to use the Grill without the APP ? until they get it fixed.

I have the hammer tone on my Austin Xl and it has separated and rusting on the lid after a year I don’t know if it’s a defect I take very good care of it out in good weather and put it away in bad so I am not to sure about the hammered finish

I have the 820 and I smoked two pork butts and 20 burgers for our family party awhile back. Worked out perfectly. With that being said , to each their own and what makes you happy. Roll the smoke!!

Got the Austin XL for its simplicity, non PID controller and size. You'll be surprised how quickly you can use up the space! I thought I'd never use 1000 sq inch but I'm glad I got something bigger. You also want room for a smoke tube if you're planning on using one🤙🏽

Also for me, if I'm putting hours into prep and smoking I'm gonna make it worth the time and put a couple racks, chickens or whatever it may be.

Oh and for your water pan and those delicious sides like smoked mac and cheese or beans. You'll need room for that too.... OK I'm done, back to work!
