Pit Boss 1600 Pro Series won't connect to 64GHz wifi. I was told I have to call my Internet provider and switch to 24GHx which is slower. Why does this require a slower connection? Im returning the smoker because of this. Anyone else have yhis problem?😮‍💨

It's a different frequency, and you shouldn't need to contact your ISP. There should be a way to set your router to just use the 2.4 GHz frequency for set up, and then once you are finished, switch your router back. 2.4 GHz, although older tech, actually has a longer range, and you don't need anything fast for your grill. Many IoT devices use the old 2.4 because the components are cheaper and it is mature tech.

It's not a reason to return the grill. Many connected devices are the same.

I finally got an answer from Spectrum. I have to use their app and set it to 2.4 but it's only temporary. It only lasts 1/2 hour. I was able to connect but it was not much good. I purposely bought the unit for the wifi cell phone features.

I believe you meant 6GHz from a Mesh 6E router (eero). The app uses 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi and BT.

What did you find not good about it? I also have Spectrum and I have zero issues with it. Please elaborate and we might be able to help.

Never heard of 6.4Ghz….but 90% of smokers on the market use 2.4Ghz. The reason is that the lower the frequency the further the travel of the signal. Also most companies are combining the 5G and the 2.4G “as a Smart connection”…..so most smokers have issues with connecting to these “smart” routers.

You can either work with the internet company to split apart the frequencies, or buy a repeater 2.4Ghz cheap router just for your IOT devices like smokers.

Not saying that the PitBoss 1600 is “the smoker” to buy….but most of them use the 2.4Ghz frequency….AND….that should be the last reason to pick a smoker is for the WiFi signal and not the Controller/Smoker capabilities and how well it makes Ribs and Pork Butt.

Most home devices connect at the 2.4ghz. It is slower and who cares for a smoker, vacuums or light switches. It also has a greater transmission distance than the 5ghz. The 5ghz is mainly used for tv and computers for the greater bandwidth. You should be able to set up dual networks using the 2.5 and 5

Nothing wrong with 2.4g. It has longer range and is very stable. As far as Bandwidth, that is between you and your ISP.
My 2.4g,

That's enough to stream to 9 x 4k screens.

5g is faster,

but who really needs that amount of bandwidth anyhow...?
