It works very well on turkeys and chickens.

I was wondering if anyone has ever put a smoker box in one while cooking a turkey.

I might try it, but dont want to experiment on Thanksgiving day.
 
Outside the box was where I went with mine but never fully sorted out a slower cook.

I took stainless steel wire about 1/8" Dia. (Tig welding rod) and cut it just smaller than the Dia of the inside. It was longer than the basket so it would sit on the basket. I skewered half a brisket and hung it inside.

I got a very tasty cook but was not slow enough to get fall apart tender although I had a lot of temp dial to back down into for a longer cook.

I haven't persued this since I have a smoker now but I think it could be made to work.
 
Bringing this back up as the weather is ripe for experimentaion....🤣😂🤣

WIthin the next couple weeks, i'll get a Purdue oven stuffer chicken and try my smoke box with chips under it.....

I say a couple weeks cuz my mom is going through some stuff, so my plans can and do change from moment to moment....

Well, my plans have gotten disrupted over the last couple weeks helping mom. Hopefully she will adjust to her new assisted living life.....time will tell

Last forseeable doctor visit was today, so, this time for sure.....ish 🤣🤣🤣

I'll be going tomorrow for a dang chicken and run my experiment!!!!
 
Today is chicken cooking day....finally

7.5 lb Oven Stuffer chicken seasoned early this morning in the basket. I stuck two probes in because its twice as good as one....

Chicken in at 3:30. Should take about 2 hours to be done, but temp will decide. Going to 160-165....

Hour n 40 minutes in and it was at 165. 15 minutes sooner than the 15 min lb timetable. Proves its better ti cook by temp than time. Time should only be used for rough estimates on when to start a cook. Smells great and i cant wait to dive in. This cooker is great for whole turkeys or chickens. So simple, easy and quick. The smoke box didnt even begin to smolder. Maybe if i didnt soak them and lit it before the cook it might have done something but i doubt it.
