This site is great folks! Thank you in advance.

I'm about to pull the trigger on a PB Pro 850. I have 2 questions.

I see people are talking about a new controller board. How can I tell if my new (not yet purchased) 850 has the new board or the old board? The 850 is on sale at Lowe's this week for $499, regularly $549.

Second question, Is the ash hopper easy to clean-out? I saw the bottom ash hopper on the 1150, but the 1150 is too big for my family needs.

Best,

I think that by now all the 850's have the newer version, not 100% sure but you might ask the guys at Lowes.
the ash clean out is not so bad, just take out the two grater and the broiler plate and use your shop vac.
do this BEFORE you cook instead of just after a cook,
you don't want to suck up any hot pellets and cause an internal fire in your shop vac.
trust me, this happened to me once, had to buy a new shop vac, could have burned down my garage if I didn't notice.

Best,
You always want to let it cool all the way down before vacuuming it out. I turn my all the way up , let it cool then clean it. Don’t forget to clean the temperature sensor as well. Stops temperature swings
Hopefully this helps you 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Best,
I was going to buy the 850 week before the 4th. When I got to lowes they only had the floor model and a guy was there wanting it. Instead of going to another store I got the 1150 for 100.00 more and glad I did now. More than a few times I've had my 1150 full with other grills going also. Ash clean out is a breeze and I only take it apart to clean every 3-5 cooks.
