No Smoke Flavor

I’m new to pellet smoking but not smoking. I have a Pit Boss Copperhead Vertical Smoker Onyx Edition. I had a Smokin-it II electric smoker. After roughly 5 smokes, I unable to get smoke flavor on the meat, ribs, pork butt, brisket chicken. I smoke @225F + an Amzen smoker tube. I tried both Kirkland and Bear Mountain Gourmet Blend pellets.

Any ideas?

The "blends" that I have tried always left me under impressed. When I can get them my goto is Bear Mountain hickory. It works well for me.

I also have had good luck with Smokin Pecan pellets. They are a little spendy but are nothing like the bags of pellets from the box stores.

It's all in the pellets as well as adding a smoke tube into the mix.

Mesquite or hickory in a smoke tube is the smokiest I can get on a pellet grill. Lack of deep smokiness is the one greatest disadvantage of pellet grills.
But as I age, the convenience outweighs the disadvantage.

Yes I get smoke rings but very little or no smoke flavor. My old electric smoker provided good smoke flavor.

Ya. It doesn’t make sense. Next time I smoke I will use Bear Mountain Hickory pellets. If that doesn’t do it, I’m going to get rid of this smoker.

From my research all pellet smokers benefit from a smoke tube. I use one on every smoke

In my experience I have found that grilling at lower temperatures for longer times helps the smoke flavor. The stated 225 degrees should be low enough. I start with 225 deg for an hour or two and go to about 325 deg to finish. Coating the meat with olive oil helps the absorption of smoke.

I layer wood chips with pellets in mine
I pull the meat out of the fridge after lighting it
It’ll absorb the smoke easier when the meat is cold
