Hey everyone!

Had been eye balling a Pitboss 1150 online for a while as my Oklahoma Joe's traditional smoker gave way to the elements and humidity down here after 5 years. Lowes didn't have the 1150 on display, but had the smaller 850.. looked like a great grill that could handle what I wanted to do.. then a glare in my eye got me. The 1600 was sitting a grill or two down. I immediately fell in love with how solid this thing felt! Gasket around the lid!?! What! Light in the barrel!! Sweet!

Anyhow, I left Lowes without either. Wanted to do more research and they didn't have the 1600 in stock.

Today they finally got some in stock and I grabbed the 1600. Got it together with the help of my boys. We did the initial burn in this evening. Took longer than expected to get up to temp, but new smoker it happens it'll get better after a few cooks. Probably gonna break it in tomorrow with some ribs, pork shoulder or tenderloin.

One question tho. I don't see a smoke setting on this nor in the manual. All the videos I've watched about the 1600 were from when it first dropped. Before the updated controller. Is there no way to ensure you get a lot of smoke from this pit?

This is my first pellet smoker, I'm used to charcoal and hard wood. So very interested to see how it works out for me. I've helped friends break in their pellet smokers, traegers mainly.

Welcome to the forum. Have you ever gotten Royal Reds from R and R Seafood? Man they're good!

Can't beat those R and R crawfish!! And that spicy butter! C'mon now!!
I was working a refinery job in Pascagoula, I asked about picking up crawfish to bring home with me. My Bud said "forget the crawfish, get the Royal reds!" I had never had them. I bought 10lbs and a bunch of that butter and the 3 spout squirter bottles! And a sac of bugs! We had a feast!

Merry Christmas!

@ANT0407 can prob give some advice. I believe he has this model.
Yes I have the 1600 pro. The PID controller does have to learn, and does get to temp faster and hold temp better the more you cook. I got it because of the double walled chamber and gasket around the door, as well as the easy ash clean out. Not to mention all of the space it has to cook on.The one piece of advice I would give is to keep your temp sensor in the chamber clean. I clean mine after each cook with a magic eraser. That advice goes for any smoker though. Enjoy your new 1600 feel free to reach out to me if you have any other questions.
