Howdy from Texas! New guy here about to purchase a new pellet grill in the next couple of days and would love some advice on which one to purchase. Family of four, new to this! Been around old school smokers all my life but this will be my first pellet smoker. Have it narrowed down to the following - also is bigger better in terms of size? Really liking the 550 size but worried we would outgrow it as we do host quite a few parties.

1. Pit boss Navigator 850
3. Pit boss Navigator 550
2. Pit boss platinum Laredo 1000
4. Pit boss 820 competition series
5. Nexgrill oakford 580

The 550 would hold 2 butts and 6 to 8 ears of corn will feed a lot for ribs 2 to 3 racks of ribs so unless there are all boys in their teens ypu should be ok

Someone told me never end up wishing you had more cooking space, so I ended up with the 1600 pro. It was really good advice. There have been many times in the past few years that I'm glad I got the bigger one because i needed the room when cooking for parties. You probably don't need to go that big but I would recommend the larger 820 or 850. Welcome from NH 🍺 🍻

When I bought mine I was planning on getting the 850 pro. When I got to lowes me and another guy was there to get one too. They were out and only had the floor model available. I let him take it and I got a Pro1150P2 instead. Best decision ever I don't know how many times I've had it slap full and havin to light my other grills.

Welcome to the forum @dlturner87

Have you seen the deals that Academy is offering right now?

SLAP FULL, he'll yeah son!

Thanks for all that have responded! I'm going to academy tomorrow to check out the navigator 850. I was worried it would just be too big for just my use weekly- longer warm up times and more pellets used vs the smaller 550. My local Walmart also has the platinum Laredo 1000 on clearance right now but reading reviews it really doesn't put out smoke like the rest. Anyone have experience with that?

I don't think you can go to big you just always have wiggle room. 😀 or so they say
