Mad Scientist BBQ smoke tube experiment

I saw this previously. I have to admit I had not thought of the idea that smoke tubes might produce a more bitter "dirty smoke". Will have to experiment myself.

I noticed it's heavier white smoke right away but I've never had an off taste from a tube. I used a 2nd tube for the first time a few weeks ago and tasted a slight dirty smoke taste. So I won't use 2 tubes at the same time again, it was too much in my opinion.

Great info Ant. Was thinking of getting a second one but now I’m not

Saw this one on Amazon just curious if anyone else has used it?

Looks interesting. I have noticed I get better smoke flavor in a smoke tube when I use chips instead of pellets. But they do not burn as long and sometimes will go out. That is why I mix pellets and chips in the tube. Not every time but sometimes. Just depends on the mood I am in. I have 2 smoke tubes and have used both at the same time (with all pellets) and have never noticed any bitter smoke.

Great info. Never thought of doin that. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸

Yeah, just play around with the smoke tube. Try with all chips and pack them in as best you can. Then another time put in a hand full of chips then a hand full of pellets again packing them tight. For long cooks I just use pellets as they last much longer in the tube.

First time I used a smoke tube I loaded chips in it. Didn’t pack them in and got over an hour of smoke with the right amount of smoke in the meat. Will certainly have to try a combo of the pellets and chips.
Can’t help but think that the pellets used could also play a big role. A pellet that doesn’t give off much smoke flavor may benefit from a smoke tube. However, a pellet that gives off more smoke and better flavor may not need a tube… 🤷‍♂️
