So I used a bag of knotty wood plum and the bark smell and look of the pellets are a-1 but …the ash is crazy coatd my whole grill and foil pan rim I’ve never seen anything like it

All pellets I've used produce ash but some are better than others. Never heard of knottywood pellets. Have you tried any other brands.

This is my 8th or 9th brand I’m just going there seeing what I like and yes I know burning wood = ash but it was all over everything there ash outside on my grill I’ve never seen anything like it

What was left of the plum I just added to a mix blend I got going I would use them for the first few hours so really dump smoke then swap out with somthing else or find a good mix…

Other then doing a quick vac mid cook idk I have one other kind from knotty I’m gunna try and see how it goes

So I just tryed it it taste good u can taste the plum is the only way I can describe it kinda weird interesting but good

Ok… I can’t stand the plum flavor on this pork I still taste it and it’s been 3 hours no buying plum agian

I like the flavor on both the Plum and Almond Knotty Wood pellets. Tastes do vary.

The plum pellets varied in length. They do appear to produce more ash. The plum pellets formed klinkers in my fire box.

The Knotty Wood pellets are something different. They include the entire tree; bark, cambium and core wood. Probably explains the extra ash and the clinkers. Seems like the more complex component mix produces a more complex flavor. I like it. I will continue to use both the Plum and the Almond.

That said, because of the klinkers and the varied pellet length, I have learned to mix the Plumb with other more traditional pellets.

The other thing is this is a fairly new small family run company.
Very happy to have access to their product.

We have talked to them a few times at trade shows. I have a couple of bags of almond and plum they gave me in April, but I haven't gotten around to trying them.

they are located just outside Sacramento and are sourcing from local orchards, so an endless supply and (in theory) a cost advantage. For folks in California, price should be good because of lower freight costs.

Its my understanding that the "whole tree" approach is the same as lumberjacks - so that should produce better flavor. Guess I will have to go dig them out and try them.
