KC Combo rusting

Hey everyone. Bought a KC combo back in July of and have done your average amount of smoking on it. Just wondering if any other owners have the problem with the grates that cover the flame pot are completely rusting out to the point rust chunks are blowing onto the food cooked ? As you can see in the picture the glowing of the flame under what I thought would be thick durable sliding steel but instead it’s rusted a good 3/4 of it away !! I would imagine with the grate slide to shut you shouldn’t be seeing any type of glowing. Not to mention it creates very uneven heat cook spots ! The KC was only set to 350F in the picture as I’m afraid HIGH would begin to melt the lid off lol.

Don't have the KC Combo but have 2 other Pit Boss smokers. One I have had 2 years and the grates are fine, no signs of rust. I make sure they are coated very well with oil/spray and from what I understand this helps to keep away rust.

I've had my KC Combo for about a year or so and have done only 5 smokes on it and after this winter I looked at my Flame Broiler and it's completely rusted shut and I can't get it to slide at all. I just email Pit Boss as well but was wondering if anyone could help me revive it? Can I use steel wool on it? How could I get the rust off? I just read online that I was suppose to season that as well with a high quality heat oil, which I didn't know about.

I have had mine since last May and have no rust. Mine stays covered with the Pit Boss KC Combo cover when not in use. Also I did seasoned when I did the burn off and after deep cleans.

There is a problem for me as I never seasoned it. I seasoned the griddle only.
