What's a good brush to clean the porcelain grates on a Combo unit? The grates are the porcelain cross hatch type. I don't want a nylon brush or steel bristle brush. I like to clean the grill when it's hot, and the bristle brushes fall apart and risk getting in the food.

What do you use on your porcelain cross hatch grates?

I wound up purchasing a Palmyra brush. I looked at the other brushes mentioned above, but found many reviews and pictures showing them falling apart. Broken handles, and mainly pieces of the scrubbing wires breaking off. The Palmyra is a natural palm fiber that is strong, absorbs oil and if it breaks off of the brush, will burn up at grilling temperatures. They're not expensive, so replacing them twice a year is no big deal.

Please let us know how you like this brush. I have the Kona brush that the previous poster mentioned, but I'm not a huge fan. You need to apply water to get some steam going so that it cleans properly. Also never felt that it got my grates very clean and I couldn't get in the crevices very well. I'm spoiled by just turning up my Weber gas grill to high for a few minutes and then brushing it off. Still looking for an easy solution for my Pit Boss where I can just clean it with the grates still on the grill at a somewhat moderate temperature (200-300) or completely cooled off.

I don't use a brush. I power wash them. It takes no more than 3-5 minutes and they are clean for the next piece of meat I throw on there!

Yeah, the Kona doesn't catch everything that well, it gets big crud off fine and the water on hot grate effect helps to remove other stuff, but the angle where it works decently is awkward. Not that my regular brush was any better.

I have a sponge I use to scrub off the grates, thinking about getting one of the handles + scrubby sponge combos, that seems like it would be pretty effective.

I use the yellow & green sponge from dollar general
Cheap and effective 🇺🇸🇺🇸

I think mine is blue, but it's the same thing. cheap, I use the rougher side, and I just leave it sitting outside. HAven't even used water yet, there isn't much other than a little carbon buildup on them. I'll probably hit it with some water later. My kona is okay and the water helps but it still misses a fair amount, maybe the sponge with water will be notably more effective.
