I have a vertical pro-series 4 pellet smoker that got hot and shut down with an ERL code. Now it is cooled off and it still displays the code. It will not start up, unplugged it and there is power to the switch but when I press the power button, the code displays and nothing else happens. Any thoughts would be appreciated, Thank you.

Just a wild shot, but have you tried cleaning the internal probe?

The ER1 (or ERL) code means the controller can't read the probe. If the probe is really dirty it might prevent it from sensing the internal temperature.

Like I said, it's unlikely, but it might work.

Mine just threw an ErL code (same model as yours). Did the same thing a year ago. A year ago they sent me a new controller which solved the problem. This year they are saying its the temp probe. My temp probe is clean no issues. I believe they are cutting their losses on a bad design and not standing behind their product and sending out warranty replacements that solve the problem.
