Can’t reach handle

I’m 5’4 and can’t reach over the top of the grill & grab the handle to close the lid on my 820d. Quite a problem when the grill is hot. Although I’m a newbie to pellet grills, surely I’m not the only vertically challenged person to experience this. Any suggestions on ways to add an extender to the handle so it is above the top of the lid when open? Or attach something to the edge of the lid that is “grab-able” when open?

Are you lowering the shelf before reaching?

Yes. Haven’t used or raised the shelf in front at all. Just can’t reach over the lid when open. Appreciate the question!!

I have a couple, I call it the getter, because it gets things I can't reach.
when you drop a rag behind the washer or dryer or whatever, it even has a magnet on the end.
It doesn't have a laser beam though. ha!

the handle is centered on the lid , i moved mine over to the left. Just had to drill 2 holes., then you can lift the lid without it touching your arm. worked for me but I'm 5'8"
