Does anyone when smoking put the meat over the fire pot if there is room to put it to the left or right? Since that’s the hottest part of the grill wondering if anyone does that.

I don’t like to go directly over the fire pot unless I’m grilling and searing.

I have never done that, but maybe I should try it to understand how it works

I use the area for my appetizers and to catch up some stuff that's lagging behind in temp. I keep the bottom plate wrapped in foil so there is no searing on my 1150. Wished that bottom plate was solid without that sear crap

I place mine to the far right unless I’m doin a steak. Hopefully this helps you
