I have a Lexington grill and recently I began to have trouble with the temperature control. The temperature of the grill could be 100 degrees off from the controller setting. I called Pit Boss and they have sent me a new temperature sensor. Also, the representative asked me about my start up procedure. I was starting the grill at the temperature that I wanted to grill at instead of Smoke specified by the instructions. Before installing the new temperature probe I followed the procedure of starting in Smoke. The temperature was controlled + or - 25 degrees as it is supposed to. My question is how the starting temperature setting affects the ability of the controller to control temperature. If Smoke is the required initial setting how long must this setting be maintained. The dots at the bottom of the LCD screen indicate the electric starter is on and theyremain on for several minutes. Is it required to wait until the dots disappear before raising the temperature. I give Pit Boss a lot of credit for sending me a new temperature sensor (free) even when I deviated from their start up procedure.

Thanks for the replies. Perhaps I raised my temperature setting too soon or did not use the Smoke setting at all. I will be more careful and allow more time in the Smoke setting. That is my lowest temperature setting. It appears that I will not need the new temperature sensor that Pit Boss sent me but it is surely good to have if needed.

I had the Lexington and found shortly after I purchased it, I could only get it to work on the 180 no matter if it was 200/225/250, but worked normally at 300 and above. Pit Boss sent me a new controller (again this was after they sent me a replacement probe). I purchased a Laredo and found better control of the heat If I used H to bring the temp about 50-100 past the desired temp and let it come down to desired temp.
