Is it normal for my PB850 to automatically start burning pellets as soon as I press the power button?
For example, yesterday I spent over a half hour on a call with support about other issues and the whole time I was on the phone with them (37 minutes) my grill was burning pellets the whole time and I had no intention of cooking anything. But as soon as they got on the phone they told me to turn on the grill, and when I did it immediately started burning at the Smoke mode and goes up to 180 degrees, and there is no way to stop it that I can see.

So far, my impression of their support is pretty low. They placed an order for my control board Saturday 6th, and said I would receive a ship notice with tracking. A link was sent to the order detail. At the bottom of the page there is a "Need Help" that points to a no-reply address!
Been 4 days (2 business) and still no shipment info. And I still feel it's ironic that they do not post a contact number anywhere on their site. You have to come to these forums and get other people to share a number with you.
Seems like shoddy practices to me.

have an 850 and when I power it on it starts trying to reach last temp it was at. Its automatic and never found anywhere it says click here to start cooking.

I have the 850 and yes when you turn it on/press start yes it starts and goes to 180, this is normal
Is that documented somewhere? Lots of people keep saying that but none have directed me to where it's documented and Pit Bosses' own staff contradicts those claims.

180 is the same as smoke I believe, because when you select 180 with app the smoker temp flashes a "S". That's the way it is with my 850 and may be your over thinking this just a tad.

Where do you want it to go? To change press the temp dial and adjust the temp and press a second time to set.

I don't want it to go anywhere. I would think that just because you turn the power on it shouldn't start burning pellets immediately.
For example, like when I turn on my 3D printer it doesn't just starts heating up and printing some random object it just initializes and waits for me to tell it what to do.

I think of it as a stove or oven I turn it on and it starts getting ready to cook. So to me it makes sense
