Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue with the smokestack on my Pit Boss Laredo 1000 that I’m hoping someone can help me with.

The smokestack used to raise and lower just fine by rotating the cover left or right, thanks to a screw-based mechanism that adjusts the height up and down. However, now the smokestack stays at the same height, even though it still spins freely. It no longer adjusts as it should when turning the cover.

Has anyone else encountered this issue? It seems like the screw or adjustment mechanism isn't engaging properly anymore, but I’m not sure what part is malfunctioning. I don't really understand how it's possible for it to spin and not go up and down to be honest.... that's not how screws work lol.

Any thoughts?

Same with my 1100 on the LP Gas side, I never really forced it at on extreme or the other ( up / down ). There is an lot of overspray on the threads if I recall when assembling, perhaps that is the issue and simply remove and wire brush the extra paint buildup from the threads or nuts ?

Any suggestions on removal? Not entirely sure how to go about that if it's just rotating in place. Seems like I probably won't be able to unscrew it.

If not too much paint on the threads. The cap may have got closed to the stop point and continued to be turned, messing-up the stack portion or cap threads ? See how the cap threaded rod is larger where threads were not cut. Either the cap or stack threads got messed up possibly Can you tap the threaded rod upwards from the inside using a punch. You might be able to then catch some good threads and it might catch and unscrew the rest and you can remove the cap. Then fix the part that has now bad threads ?
