Shut Down Procedure

What is the safe and correct procedure settings to shut down PB 1000D3 ?

Push the power button and let it run through its shut down process.

Very confusing, manual page 17 says "push power off then temp control dial off". PB chat said set temp control dial to smoke wait 10 minutes then push power off. What really works for everyone (PB 1000D3 smoker)?

I agree with the above poster, just push and hold the power button for a couple of seconds then let go, you’ll see it come back on, and it’s in its cool down process. Works flawlessly. I was always told the only stupid question you can ask, is the one you didn’t ask…

I usually jack my temperature to high and let it burn off any leftovers on grates. Then just hit the off button and let it shut itself down. Once it cools off I unplug it.
Have a friend that drives a different brand. He use to just unplug his when done. Till it burned back through auger tube and into hopper.

I have also cranked up the heat to burn off crud left on the racks from the cook, and then just push your off button regardless of smoker temperature, the smoker controls take care of burning off the rest of the pellets in your pot, and cools itself down, then shuts itself off… once you see its turned itself off, it will be fully cooled and ready to put away, you’re done.

So, it is safe to leave the pellets in the auger to prevent them from burning back to the pellet bin or does the cool down cycle empty all the pellets out of the auger? If not, is there a quick way to empty the pellets out of the auger?

I empty hopper and set to 350 to burn pellets out of auger then blow out the ashes. Done

Nope , I crank it up to 375 to burn off the crud, after a half hour i hit the off button.

I crank it up too but when I hit the off button it goes into an about 10 minute or so shutdown process

I agree 100%, I crank it up, burn crud off grills, hit the off button, and it does the rest. After a half hour or so, It’s cooled down all the way, so I roll it back up into the shop. I’ve never had an issue with the pellets in the auger burning.
