Series-2 electric analog vertical does not exceed 250 degrees

I cannot exceed 250 degrees on my brand new smoker. The thermostat light is on indicating the element is still on. It is 90 degrees outside with no wind.

I have played around with air vents and all settings do not resolve.

Any ideas or suggestions welcome. Thank you.

My 820 did that at first but the second time it was ok.
Hopefully it’ll straighten itself out
