Was reading that the heat defuser that comes with the 1150 pro series 2 can be removed and not used. Is this true? It’s the one with the hole cut out that sits around the fire pot and locates on 2 screw heads. Noticed yesterday half way through my cook that it moved and was covering half my fire pot. Not sure how that happened but I’m pretty sure it was causing my temps to run high. Could have been when I was removing, cleaning and replacing the fire pot before my cook.

Are you talking about this? Yes, you don't need it if you don't want. It may affect the hotter and cooler parts of your grill, so it may cook differently than you are used to. For some people, they getting more even temperature left to right without it installed.

Yes that’s it. I’m going to try taking it out on my next cook and see what happens. Thanks for the reply

I took mine out of my 1600. I use my Heavy D as a diffuser plate over my burn pot. That allows me to place whatever I'm cooking directly over the pot as the heat is forced to both sides instead of the center.
