can someone explain how smoke mode works on the pro 1600 Elite?

I press "smoke mode" until it flashes, I'm trying to set the "P" setting using the P setting/ temp button. If I press that button once nothing happens, and if I hold the button it's switching between Fahrenheit and Celsius.

I just turn my grill on smoke and mash the button to desired P setting. Hopefully this helps you if I’m understanding your question correctly

I had the same issue with mine and called customer support. I was told that the P button will not select from a number of smoke settings and has no function other than changing temp display from Fahrenheit to Celsius. Even though the user manual says the selectable smoke level can be set by cycling the button. Think it was a feature that was included with some 1600 processors and then canned in their further production.

I bought my 1600 Elite just before Xmas. If I leave it in the default smoke mode (S) when I turn it on I can press the 'P' button once lightly to set 'P Mode'. Available modes are P1-P7. P7 is the longest delay between pellet drops and yields most smoke. However you also risk burnout from being so long between pellet drops or refueling. I have not tried it at any other temp setting but will soon and update. If I hold the 'P' button in for a few seconds it switched between Fahrenheit and Celsius.

Welcome from Texas to the group !!
I keep mine on 4 and use a smoke tube layering pellets and wood chips
As far as the P button all you need to do is tap it
Hopefully this helps you 🇺🇸🇺🇸

I'm probably really late on this thread but I thought I'd let yall know my experience with setting the P setting. I have a 1600 pro series elite. I found out the only way to change the P setting is when you first power it on. After you press the power button it will display what looks like a 5 but it's actually a S indicating you're in smoke mode. Once you see the S you can press the F/C -P button and change the P setting. It will only let you do it during the initial start up. Once you've selected a temp and the pid controller is running the button will only let you change from fahrenheit to celcius. Hope this helps. Again sorry if this thread is dead lol
