I would like to share a frustration with the Platinum Brunswick vertical smoker. I tried to smoke ribs using the 3-2-1 procedure recommended in the PB website and both times the smoker would go for about an hour and half (~ 90 to 100 minutes) at 225F then it started showing 'Err' error codes. Once this happened, I had to shut the smoker off, restart and the "Err' would happen again every 10 to 15 minutes. In the 10-15 minute period, the auger and burner were working before the Err code appeared again. I only put in a small amounts of pellets, ~ 6-8 lbs, so I can be assured that the auger was working from seeing the depression on the pellet surface. I also knew the burner was working because the ash tray had fresh and hot ashes. Both times, I eventually finished cooking the rib in the oven.

I received the smoker at the end of January. Smoked trout once @ 190F and it appeared to be functional. Unfortunately, both subsequent rib attempts failed.

I have come to the conclusion that this smoker has a major problem with the control system.

Usually Err is a bad internal temp probe. They will send a replacement for free and they are usually easy to swap out. Mine had the Err code and I out in a new internal RTD probe (temp probe) and no more problems. I have a different model so call and check with them.

Thank you for the suggestion. I contacted PB service and am waiting for their response. Will update when I have new info to share.

PB Service is quick to respond by providing a new temperature probe. Unfortunately, it is out of stock and will take 4 to 6 weeks to arrive. Will have to wait and see whether it solves the problem.

See what style you have, get one from Amazon. That's what I did. Was cheap and had one day shipping. Then when the one from Pit Boss arrived a few weeks later I just saved it as a backup
