PIT BOSS REPLACEMENT CONTROL BOARD – VARIOUS MODELS – WIFI/BT COMPATIBLE

Is there any information on this sku80036. There is no manual link but it does list my model PB700D as supported any users out there?
I got a PDF from text tec support very easy. This sounds exactly what I want to upgrade. It will make it equal to the vertical version 4 I just purchased I love the control.

Same question. I'm getting good results on my 700FB but a little more precision would be nice. It looks nice but I'm unclear as to whether the P setting is doable on that controller.

Tim,
I see your model is very similar to mine (I added a shelf and smokestack). I noticed an angled piece of steel on the front leg toward the shelf. Is that a bottle opener? If not, I'm curious as to what it is.

Yes it is but with twist top I have yet to use it now if it opened wine bottles it would be relevant now in retirement. The new controller will be here tomorrow if fedX is correct 🤔.

I got my controller today and will see about installing it the box I got was opened before and I am hesitant about this but will try it I have the probes and am willing to try

Just installed the PID controller today and the programable temp probe worked as expected turning the temp to 180 when it reached the set point yeaa. The wifi works great so far the android app only shows 2 temp probes and the apple app shows all 3 so what the heck. But the wifi is worth the time to me so good upgrade

The programmable probe turns the grill to 180 degrees when the programmed temp is reached and holds at that very well it is wonderful.

I love this new controller it will go from 300 to 180 degrees without flame out and it is great I can not speak highly enough 😉 about this. Now if the app would just register the 5 degree steps to the temp adjustment instead of 50 degree. The dial works great 5 degree adjustment bit the app is 50 degree

My app on the phone is the same thing, I agree they should update it so we have 5 deg increments.

That's awesome. I guess I will put it on my list after I get a little more accomplished.

I already grabbed one of those thermopro dual remote probe things that seem to get great reviews. Certainly an improvement over the ones I had, and does part of the work I'd want out of this PID.

Is the controller comoatible with the harnesses? I.e. no soldering? I can solder okay but prefer to let the manufacturer handle it unless I'm cobbling things together or trying to get more life from a broken laptop jack or similar.

I love the idea of being able to manage temps remotely I don't mind being hands on, but if I'm lighting it up to bring to a temp, I definitely could enjoy setting it on my phone/tablet.

I am cooking a rack of ribs right now. The ability th adjust the tempi s great I started at 225 for 3 hrs then went to get beer and came back at 155 internal and wrapped then turned the temp to 300 and added the potatoes when meat got to 190 I turned the temp to 250 and other than adding the potatoes I never went to the grill. But it went from 225 to 300 then back to 250 with no problem. The adjustments only took 15 min max the ribs are great I will send pix when I have time. Sorry to much beer but great meal

Tim,
Thanks for the heads up. Better precision and speed are definitely things I want to have. I do fairly well with stock but it's not very flexible and there are holes in temp where the two settings are 50 degrees apart and maybe I'd like to be in the middle somewhere.

Hi guys,

A little late to the party here but just wanted to confirm if this SKU 80036 we are discussing is an actual PID controller, not just WiFi BT capable. Also, will the original internal temp probe work with this? How about the meat probes? Are they Maverick ET73 or??

Thanks all.

Cheers

Based on the amazing accuracy with the new controller, along with the complexity compared to stock, I do believe it is a proper PID controller (for those unfamiliar, PID means Proportional, Integral, Derivative and it means that the controller is doing more than seeing a temp and reacting, it's calculating heat-up and cool-down stats and predicting a more nuanced feed curve for the auger). It is worlds different IMO, on all the same other hardware/

So far, and I'm trying to eliminate the controller as the issue, there is one thing that doesn't seem to be better, and that's pushing and keeping high temperatures. I have a hard time getting the mechanical barrel thermometer over 450 when the internal probe is right at 500. Now, I have a sear plate on my model, so I seem to still be able to get good results, but I'm concerned about not being able to get as hot without opening a direct path from the firebox. In principle, I should still be able to get up to 500 with the sear plate closed in most of the grill, and more with the sear plate opened, but I seem to be losing up to about 50 degrees (maybe a hair more). I wonder if maybe my internal probe is a little goofy and that was causing temp swings previously. But I guess that's a question for support.

To add, pit boss even includes a pretty solid explanation of PID for the uninitiated.
