This has happened 3 times now even after cleaning it. The diffuser is bent. Are these that important or can I continue using the bent one? I thought it was the Bear Mountain pellets I used but went back to the pit boss pellets and same results. Also I was wondering if I should get any fire gasket tape foe sealing purposes. Mostly want this to stop catching on fire. I even cover the metal heat deflectors with tin foil to cut down on any grease getting into the bottom of the smoker. Any help is appreciated.

Where’s the fire starting? I bought my 1100 PS slightly used and the prior owner didn’t use the defuser nor have I. If you’re keeping the grill clean there should be nothing but the pellets that would catch fire.

Looks like it’s coming from the pellets

Try using a colander to sift out pellet dust.
Empty the hopper, try this and let me know if it works for you 🇺🇸🇺🇸

Happened to me years ago on my first Austin XL, twice. Sent Pit Boss a video and they sent me a new controller. For me the fire was smoldering, so the auger kept going, then the fire would kick in and the firebox was overflowing with pellets so the whole thing caught fire. The only way I cook now is with a bluetooth thermometer with alarms set. If my smoker gets over 300 degrees the alarm tells me to check it. Same if it drops under 175. It's saved me a few times.
