Hello:

I've been having trouble with the Pitt Boss Grills app (the replacement for the SmokeIT app) almost since I purchased my grill a few months ago. One night while I wasn't even using the grill I suddenly received a notification on my phone that my grill had reached its set temperature. I went outside to check that the grill wasn't on and it was definitely off.

Since then, every time I've tried to use the app to monitor a cook, when I open the app and connect to the grill, it will show the temperature and other settings then display a message saying that my grill has been turned off and do I want to end the cook. I've tried deleting the app, erasing all previous data, adding the grill back into the app, and I still get the same results while cooking. I have also seen notices that my grill has reached temp when not using it once or twice since the original phantom notice.

I've tried a lot of different things like moving my router closer to the patio where the grill is located to rule out connectivity issues, deleted the grill from the app and added it back in and I just can't seem to get the app to behave as expected.

During my most recent cook, the app tells me it is connected through WiFi and when I open the grill control, it displays no temperature or any other settings related to the grill. Not sure if others are experiencing similar issues with this new app, but I'm starting to suspect that there is something wrong with the WiFi electronics in the control unit.

Hi, have you tried unplugging and replugging in the grill? I had the same (or similar) problem and wasted a bunch of time with Pit Boss' useless tech support and while I had them on the line, realized that was the one thing I hadn't done. I did that and then attempted to explain how I fixed it and that they apparently have a bug in the new firmware that's crashing the Wi-Fi on the smoker controller and he wouldn't believe me and kept trying to give me troubleshooting instructions. "I'VE ALREADY FIXED IT!!!" and still no luck convincing him or getting him to report that they have something they need to fix. I've had to reboot the smoker several times since then to restore proper operation. In fact, Pit Boss now recommends leaving the unit unplugged when not in use. Could have something to do with the fact that I've seen it randomly turn itself on (presumably due to dirt and moisture on the touch pad) and that the fan will cycle on and off when the sun hits the smoker here in Texas!

I just recieved my 1600 pro for christmas.
It connected by Bluetooth and wifi without issue. Since then the Bluetooth connects everytime I start the grill up but the wifi doesn't unless I re-enter the wifi password. Once I reenter the password I'm good to go, it will switch between Bluetooth and wifi depending on how far I'm from the grill.
You said after plugging in your grill it connects right up eith no issues.
Did I miss something? Is there a setting in the app to auto reconnect wifi?
