Did someone tell you it can't be done? Based on what I just saw, it looks like you should be able to.Why can't I put a PID in my Pit Boss Lexington PB500LXW1?
yes exactlyDid someone tell you it can't be done? Based on what I just saw, it looks like you should be able to.
Do you have a controller like this:

Should have the same leads -- for auger, fan and igniter -- and one for the temp probe.
No i didn't, it was not on their list of approved models.Did you call customer service to see if it is possible?
Pit Boss customer service? 877 303 3134 option 2No i didn't, it was not on their list of approved models.
yes exactly
Where's the list? I'd be curious to see what makes one compatible vs not. Is it the cutout in the grill that won't fit the new controller? I haven't seen any technical specs -- maybe some have variable speed fans and some don't...No i didn't, it was not on their list of approved models.
Not the same grill - but looks to be the same controller.
Mine has the PID controller on it -- I just replaced it -- has the same leads.
Not mine. Ran across it. I wonder if it's the unit size (of the PitBoss controller) that is too to large to fit in the cutout. The whole point of PID is to be able to predict and stabilize temps over the cook. It shouldn't matter the size of the grill. If you used a 3rd party PID, from what I have seen, they have a smaller foot print and would at least fit inside the cutout -- seems you would have to do a little custom work for the backplate. I have read some use aluminum or even lexan, and match the paint. Is that your you tube video?
How does that hold your heat settings?
I did call customer service as mine has 20 to 50 degree swings.
They said that it could be the main temp module , sending me another.
They did say mine was a legacy model, sold by
Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot. Said mine was to small for a PID. The Austin Xl also has the same controller? Rec Tec Has PID on their 590 and 380, both small grills.
I don't get it.
I will. This past weekend I installed the PB PID and for the first time was able to manage and control temp with my phone, which came in handy, when I realized I put the ribs on too soon.I am looking at some of the 3rd party PIDs . ruled out Smoke daddy( high temp 450, no wifi). Savanah Stoker looks complicated with all the offset adjustments (seen the video demos), again no wifi. I would like wifi, I get enough exercise with my job. Rec Tec looks interesting. My son has a 380 , 590, and 700.
Let m know if you get one?
How do you like the pro series PID so far? Or did you already upgrade to the redtec?I will. This past weekend I installed the PB PID and for the first time was able to manage and control temp with my phone, which came in handy, when I realized I put the ribs on too soon. However, once I finish playing with this one, i'll find a RT. The Savannah Stoker looks nice, except it doesn't have WiFi, which I've already become spoiled from -- only one cook. Also, I don't need my smoker to look like Grease Lightning.
