Newbie needs some direction

Ok I’m a green horn but trying, could someone explain the caps on the smoke tubes, what do you gain or how do you adjust for certain out comes by screwing them way up or way down. As well as the vent in the smoker itself as far as open or closed. Mine has two, I have the Lockhart. Thanks alot

I keep mine about half way on my vertical Pit Boss. Works best for me... Some people remove them entirely and say they are only there to keep rain out. But half way works for me and I have never had any problems.

I keep mine on my 1600 half way as well. I'm not convinced it matters as long as it's not closed completely
