Good afternoon all! I have smoked several times using charcoal and wood chunks, but bought a Pitboss 850 this weekend, and trying a turkey breast and set of ribs. Wish me lucks.
Only problem that I am seeing right now is that I do not see any smoke, and cooking at 225, so pellets are definitely being fed through the augur.
Tried dropping the temp to 180 and maybe saw a little.
Did the burn off for 45 minutes on Saturday.
Pellets are Pit Boss brand.

I know its cooking because I can hear fan, see the flame and it lets me adjust the temp. Just do not see any smoke.
Hopefully, I figure it out.

You’re not going to see a ton of smoke like you would on a stick burner or other types of smokers. The pellets are a much cleaner burn and therefore put off a thinner smoke.

If you want to see smoke and add more smoke to the flavor profile I’d suggest getting a couple of smoke tubes and filling them with wood chips of your choice and letting them burn throughout the cook.

Welcome from the holler 🍻

Different pellets will smoke differently. PB pellets are pretty thin on smoke. I really like Bear Mountain hickory pellets, they produce more smoke as do Smokin Pecan pellets. You are starting a journey through the world of pellets that just happens to have tasty meat at the end of each test.

Good afternoon, all. Thank you for all the replies. I was able to find out via your posts and other reddit delves that I would not see the typical billowing smoke like I do with my old charcoal smoking with wood chunks.

The ribs and turkey breast were decent, not as good as my previous cooks with the legacy methods of smoking, but hopefully I get better. I will look into smoke tubes in the event that I want to add a specific flavor profile in addition to the Pitboss competition pellets that I used yesterday.

Hope your smokes yesterday were good also.!

Yes, this has been very disappointing to me. But I've gotten over it due to the the convenience of not having to babysit a fire all night and day long...plus I use a smoke tube.

Welcome DirtySmoker!! I haven’t seen anyone suggest going onto the settings on your control panel, select “P” setting, and turn it up. That pauses the pellet feed and produces more smoke. Happy Smokin’😎👍🏼🍻

If you have the PB850DX like we do I don’t think it has a P or pause setting. I’m looking in the instruction booklet that came with ours and it simply says if you want smoke use its lowest temperature setting. No P setting is shown in the booklet that I can see.

Anyone know something I don’t let us know.

This is about all I see on smoke setting.
