Found this grill on the curb. It did not fit in the back of the Mazda, so I rolled that bad boy to the house.

Put a new igniter and fuse in and it lit right up. I say right up but I replaced the igniter first and it didn't light then I replaced the fuse and all those pellets in the fire box lit-up and the old grease lit up.

It still needs a lot of cleanup. What is the best way to deep clean a grill with a lot of buildup?

I am thinking about replacing the controller and the probe as well. Any recommendations? Is it posible to upgrade the grill a little with a better controler?

Thanks.

What grill did you find?

Here it is, It holds a constant temp that's good.

Still needs more cleanup. Will likely hit it with some high-temp paint after that. Will follow the advice from Cowboy and Jim on cleanup. the smokestack is a mess so that might get a soak.

The readout is cracked and I would like to have modern niceties like a knob, so that will likely get replaced but can wait.

Thanks everybody for the advice.

Well first off welcome from SC.
Pull all the grates and deflector out and vacuum/clean it. I use some oven cleaner on a rag to clean temp probe on left side of CC. Then crank it up and run it. Why change anything if not needed.
Thank you for this reply. The easiest place to see how effective oven cleaner was is to look at the smokestack.

Not changing anything else right away, but my list is,

1. repaint exterior.
2. replace temp probe.
3. replace controller.

but that is not stopping me from cooking in the meantime.
