new austin xl pitboss problems

bought the Austin xl Saturday May 27

assembled and tried to begin the first time burn off procedure .

followed the start up directions.

it will start up on smoke setting and reach about 200 degrees .

if you switch to higher temp setting , it just slowly cools down and stops feeding pellets

I then do the off sequence and wait for fan to stop .

if you try smoke setting only it's gets to about 200 to 210 and then after 15 to 20 min , no more pellets and it cools down to less than a 100 . do the shutoff and try again.

same results over and over since Saturday.

customer care wants me to remove the auger and check for a blockage before proceeding further.


but since it feeds pellets every time on startup this wouldn't be a auger problem would it ???

It can if it’s clogged up.
Best thing to do is empty the hopper and pull the auger.
I sift my pellets through a colander and that gets rid of pellet dust plus some of the pellets are longer than normal. You’ll hear it breaking them up.
If this doesn’t solve the issue then you have a controller issue so call them back.

did that auger removal with video I was sent , it would put in pellets fine for 15 to 20 minutes then stop. I would cut it off and let fan run til it stopped , unplug and repeat the process again and again with same result.

but hopefully I solved the problem , I loaded it up and returned to Walmart. purchased a Laredo model and putting it together now.

damn if I am going be a pitboss mechanic on a 3 day old grill, lol

no problems with swap , 100 more bucks with my return and I got the Laredo 1000.

just finished assembly , will fire it up tommorrow.

got a few more features I like , a handle that opens or shuts the flame broiler , wifi capable , a front shelf , and easy access to the auger.

I will update tommorrow if it works , got a Boston butt and 10 pounds of chicken to put on.
