Model 1600 cooking grate coating

Anybody know what the cooking grates are coated with on model 1600. I'm finding them not that easy to clean. Almost wish they were stainless steel.

I think they are ceramic coated. I have the 1600 and they are tough to clean.

Have you tried dawn dishwashing liquid and a green/yellow sponge from dollar general?

I have the 1600. I have found that putting the grates in a large tub with plain warm water to soak for an hour will take care of most post cook cleaning.
If I run into a more difficult cleaning job, I use a moderately stiff nylon brush, after soaking.
