Be careful of the Lockhart lid! The lid doesn't lift up far enough and can drop on your heard when cleaning the gill out. This already happen to me and almost knocked me out. The lower lid handle when raised comes into full contact with the upper cabinet door handles limiting how far open the lid can be opened. This is close to 90 degrees and can fall easily. I chatted with Pit Boss and they said it was my fault because I didn't open the upper cabinet doors to give the lower lid a little extra space to open up further. Picture and video attached. I love my grill and will need to add a chain to make it safe. Anybody else have any other modifications to make it safe?

I was having the same issue. Found a simple solution using PVC piping.

Since the upper door handles are slightly smaller than the bottom handle, you will need 2 different sizes of PVC piping.

Great idea! I'm using a small bungee cord right now. But yours looks legit.

Brilliant solution!

if you cut them just right they really hold. I made the same thing out of pvc pipe for a transducer mount and holder on my kayak

I must confess, I did take the idea from youtube videos I seen using PVC and a golf ball to hold open shed doors!

I made mine so that it would be easy to remove for what ever reason. If you don't mind drilling into your upper door handle, you can use just the one clamp.

I do suggest you put it on the left door handle, as this one is more difficult to open with both doors closed.

I used a thin walled piece of PVC for the clamp that holds the bottom lid. Afterwards, I thought, if you don't mind drilling into the upper handle, you only need the one clamp.

I'm surprised PittBoss ain't been sued yet for this simple flaw.
I too got thumped cleaning my grill and now weary of it falling while grilling.

This makes it a one hand operation compared to a bungee or some type of latch.
