KC Combo Auger Motor

Hello All.

I've had the ERR error for awhile. I finally found time to work on it today. It's an ERR with a flashing Auger light. I successfully disassembled the control box and removed all pellets. I was able to get the auger out and vacuum all pellets out of the tube. While there appeared to be a lot of pellets in the tube, there were no indications it was "stuck." No wet pellets found either.

I reassembled the auger and auger motor. I tested it by applying power and seeing of the error message came up. It still does. The auger motor comes on. The fan turns and the motor turns the auger about 1 revolution before it goes into error mode and shuts down. The motor seems to be working: but is it? Could it be too weak I guess. It's hard to tell with just about 1 turn of the bit.

Temperature prob is clean and there's no error indication that that is an issue.

I feel I need to replace the motor but thought I'd ask here in case I am missing something.

That’s where I start if the connections are clean and good. One thing to remember is to sift the pellets through a colander
Gets rid of the pellet dust.

Looks like you have done the first line of troubleshooting. I too went through the ERR code thing. Reach out to customer service, I did not have an issue with the auger. They were great to me, be patient as you may have more than one issue going on. When you get the KC Combo working it really is a great cooker.

Thanks Gents. I ordered a new motor and temperature gauge. They don't cost that much so I'll replaced them. Just hope the motor is the issue. I've been without the smoker since the fall. I want to get it working now that good weather is back.

Update: Installed new motor and temperature gauge. I still get the error.

Now when I power up the smoker, briefly, I see a "C1" pop up. Any ideas what means?

I'm assuming this is a control board issue now. I see on the Pit Boss site they are about $170 . I don't see any on Amazon. Anyone have another source for them?

Any other suggestions? Thanks guys.

If it’s 5 years old or earlier then yes it’s covered under the warranty

Gents, thanks for clueing me in. I thought it was a 1 year warranty. My smoker is coming up on 3 years old.

How is working with the PB Warranty folks? Good or a pain in the butt?

My experience is to call first thing in the morning for a better experience. Hopefully this helps you

I had to replace the temperature gauge on the grill side. Called and they sent me a new one. Only took about 2 weeks if I remember.

I used customer support to replace my probe on my KC Combo that was not being recognized. Quick response and two probes showed up within a week. I would say they are very good if you clearly articulate the problem and the troubleshooting you have done.
