Hello everyone Jay here, new to smoking and decided to join for tips and of course photos of some good meat. Just got my first smoker a vertical 3 series...cheap one but I think it will be a good start for me. Did my first rack of ribs yesterday came out pretty good except I noticed the seal on my smoker was pretty darn useless. Going to try a lavalock gasket to seal it up before I try a brisket for the 4th. Nice to meet everyone.

Welcome ... That seal on the door? anyway of adjusting it?
Yep on the door itself, adjust it... maybe I can tighten the latch some more but the latch side is pretty tight and sealed it's the hinge side that's the problem. I was actually able to see into the smoker, tiny gap but enough for smoke to just pour out. The gasket I ordered will be here tomorrow some youtube vids showed success with it on other smokers and its heat rating is 800F. Simple fix vs trying to box up and return it i guess. But seems like something that should be perfect even on a cheap smoker. Oh well. I'll post some photos after install if it works.

So the gasket did help but not 100% still a little bit of smoke coming out the top left I think i will add some gasket trim to the door itself, also saw a bit of smoke escaping below the wood chip holder but that might be 100% normal. When I opened the door after the test still a nice amount of smoke inside. I think overall pitboss should have used a rubber seal twice the size of the one they installed on this smoker

Mine also leaks from the top left. Really no concern as it still smokes great.
Maybe your right, but I didn’t like the fact I could literallly see inside the smoker from that top corner and it was just so much smoke coming at me vs out the back , seemed like I was just wasting money lol . Putting the gasket on frame and the door finally sealed it up for me . Maybe overall it was just bad hinge placement , i don’t think the rubber seal had much chance…I could tighten it all I want but the hinge side was only going to go so far, now it all seems pretty even.
