Impressive

Fired up a Laredo 1000 a few times now and it does everything I wanted. I was a bit suspect of it’s ability to sear but it actually worked great. I can now retire the 3 other grills on the deck.
I love my 1600 but I still kept by griddle and my gas grill. They all have different purposes. Obviously the pit boss for low and slow cooks. I kept the Blackstone 36 because it has much more cooking surface than the griddle that came with my 1600 and. I kept my gas grill for quick cooks. If your Laredo meets all of your needs that's awesome😎

I had hopes that my 850 would retire my gas grill but I find that for low and slow the Pit is the best, but for those times when you want grilled chicken, steaks you need a grill.

Does it take a while to get to a high temp for that searing?

I have the Laredo too and have been happy with it so far. The app actually isn't quite as bad as everyone says, and although it's far from best in class, and probably isn't reliable enough to leave the grill for any extended period of time, it does work.

So far my issues have been as follows:

1. It's pretty obvious there are hotspots. I believe I saw that someone sells a part to level it out a bit more, so maybe I'll look at that.

2. I don't like that I can't pull off the grate that prevents me from reaching into the hopper. I know it's a safety measure, but I'm confident I can avoid putting my hand or anything else into the moving auger lol.

3. The seams are not welded all the way across, so they've opted instead to use high heat silicone caulk to seal those seams. I noticed that the caulk job was pretty spotty, so I called them and to their credit, they did send me a tube of the caulk for free. Unfortunately the seams to leak, so I will need to wash them and then hope that the caulk will stick. Oh and the caulk they use is only rated to 450. Seems like a better plan would've been choosing one with a higher temp, but then again maybe there's something I'm missing.

4. The lid doesn't sit flush against the barrel / firebox / whatever you want to call it. That means that smoke and heat seep out of the unit at those seams. While it isn't causing much of a problem right now, when the temps drop and the winds pick up, it definitely will. Someone told me I can use felt to stop that leak, so I'm going to have to look into that.

Frankly, I got the unit for a steal, so none of these issues are deal breakers, but I'd be a bit more annoyed if I paid full price.
