When turning on my grill the blower will start and auger will turn and I can feel a warm spot in the bottom. It seems to try and fire but after 10 minutes or so I get the code of er2 and it shuts down. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Which Pit Boss Grill do you have? Error code Er2 are found on Traeger Grills and a few other brands, but I don’t see them on Pit Boss Pellet Grills. Try these tips and see if they’ll solve the issue. If you’re feeling heat coming from the burn pot, then the igniter is working. Make sure there’s no ash in the burn pot at all. If there’s any, use a Shop Vac to vacuum the burn pot clean. Every cook should start with an Ash free burn pot. Next, I would Prime the Auger to make sure there’s a few pellets already in the burn pot and that the Auger is fully filled/charged with pellets. Also, make sure your pellet grills hopper is full of pellets. A Pellet Hopper that’s half full or less will have a greater chance of tunneling and will have a greater chance of flaming out. On a side note, what brand of pellets are you using and how old are they? Using fresh, top quality pellets will always help promote a good, stable burn. Welcome to the forum since you have a Rancher XL you have a original Leagacy Danson controller, but I would call Pit Boss support and let them know you receiving this error as the ER2 is not a listed error it maybe something happened to the controller. Let us know the outcome after calling Pit Boss.
