Charcoal

has anyone ever used the charcoal flavor pellets? Just curious how they compare to the wood flavor pellets

I tried some and still have some left. I think it was royal oak brand. I didn't notice much charcoal flavor, similar to lumberjack 'char-hickory'. I didn't find either burn any different either despite claims on the royal oak bag. I did NOT try to burn any in a smoke tube though. that might be worth a shot.

They burn hotter than regular pellets. I tried some last weekend in a smoke tube but still didn’t taste much charcoal. Smoky but not really charcoal flavored.

I really cant tell wood flavor unless its real heavy smoked. I mix the charcoal pellets with all pellets, never tasted "charcoal", and bag is about gone and wont replace it.

i dont know if they have Fleet Farm near you but i saw a commercial the other day for 20lb bags of bear mountain for 7.99. I thought that sounded like a good deal. not sure if its still running, and i wasn't able to get out to the store but i've always wanted to try bear mountain. I use all the lumberjacks as my standard.
